Chad is located in Central Africa, south of Libya,
Geographic coordinates 15 00 N 19 00 E. Its total area is 1.3 million sq. km,
slightly more than 3 times the size of California. Its climate is tropical in
the south and desert in the north. Its highest point is Emi Koussi, 3,415 m (Left)
and lowest point is Djourab 160 m (Right).
Its many natural resources are petroleum,
uranium, natron, kaolin, fish, which is located in Lake Chad, gold, limestone,
sand and gravel, and salt. It also has natural hazards, such as hot, dry, and
dusty harmattan winds in the north; periodic droughts; and locust plagues. Unfortunately,
the problems never end; its environmental problems are inadequate supplies of
portable water, improper waste deposal in rural areas contributes to soil and
water pollution, and desertification.
Because Chad is nowhere near the coast,
Lake Chad is the most important body of water in the Sahel.
