Chad is one of the poorest countries in Africa, it also has one of the worst infrastructures. Chad is separated in two different social groups. One being the wealthy, which includes big traders, land owners and government people. The second kind of class being the peasants. In Chad theirs a harsh decline in food importation which is hurting and starving to death many people. The main export of Chad is cotton which gives 65 percent of their revenues. Their livestock exportation gives another 20 percent of their revenues. Most of the population works in raising livestock and in agricultural production, or they work in the military or in cultivation. Even thought they have to 'major' exports their imports on food is quite small. The GPD or Gross Domestic Product is estimated 687 dollars per person. Which means they live on less that two dollars a day. Men are dominant over the women in Chad. The gender role for men is basically working for government, public life and military. The men dominate the pastoral and commercial farming. In the other hand the women work in the house, doing daily tasks and going over her family responsibilities, such as caring for the children and cooking food. In the north (where Islam dominates) the women are more closely guarded, unlike the south, where they are more free to roam about. And although the women participate in trading or handling of livestock , they are most likely not organized in public associations.
